Dear Friend and Partner!
God has given me a message recently that I wanted to pass along to you. I believe it will help you to stay the course and walk in the fullness of what God has prepared for you. It is from Joshua Chapter One. I would encourage you to read through this chapter several times to more fully catch the impact of what the Spirit of God wants to say to you.
In this chapter we are reminded of the importance of not allowing God’s Word to depart from our MOUTHS, particularly as it relates to walking in our inheritance from God and possessing what He has prepared for us.
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your MOUTH, but you shall meditate in it day and night…that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Josh 1:8)
These instructions were given so that we will be able to “OBSERVE TO DO according to all that is written in it.” In other words, we will be able to maintain an image and picture of victory and success which is consistent with God’s Word to us, thereby enabling us to act accordingly. This will then ensure that we “make our way prosperous and have good success.”
In reading through this first chapter of Joshua, The Lord gave me FIVE CONFESSIONS that I wanted to share with you. The first of these is very important, as it reflects our determined purpose and commitment to intentionally, thoughtfully, and singularly say only what God’s Word says! And it is the basis for the other confessions. And here it is:
GOD’S WORD SHALL NOT DEPART FROM MY MOUTH!
It would be helpful to stop and say that right now!
Here are the other four confessions:
GOD IS WITH ME, AND I REFUSE TO BE AFRAID!
I AM ONLY STRONG AND I AM VERY COURAGEOUS.
NO MAN SHALL BE ABLE TO STAND BEFORE ME ALL THE DAYS OF MY LIFE. I AM UNSTOPPABLE.
I AM SUCCESSFUL AND PROSPEROUS WHEREVER I GO.
You can use these same confessions from The Book of Joshua or you can make your own. But it’s important to say something! This is a vital part of maintaining a possessing-posture in life. We have in life WHAT WE SAY.
But before we go any further, why are we doing all this? That’s the question that came to my mind. What’s at stake here? Is this just a religious exercise practiced by a bunch of “faith fanatics”? Will it really matter one way or the other?
What’s at stake for us is the same thing that was at stake for Joshua and the children of Israel – THEIR INHERITANCE. What God had promised was at stake! And God was giving them instructions that would safeguard the receiving of what He had so graciously prepared. Yes, the specific instructions that God commanded of Joshua and the children of Israel really mattered, and they really matter for us today.
Different portions of our inheritance in Christ and God’s promises to us are at stake! It’s good to say it right now – “I am only strong and very courageous!”
I want to remind you of WHAT’S BEEN PREPARED FOR YOU
- A PLAN from God (Jer 29:11)
- A PURPOSE (2 Tim 1:9)
- A PLACE of Kingdom function and productivity (1 Cor 12:18)
- SPECIFIC PROMISES (2 Cor 1:20)
Not only have these things been prepared for you by your Heavenly Father (The Great Planner) but THEY HAVE ALREADY BEEN GIVEN. They are yours! They have been earmarked for you! They have your name on them! That’s why the word “INHERITANCE” is an appropriate description. We are merely receiving and possessing what God has already prepared and freely given. It’s all by God’s grace through our faith. (Eph 2:8-10)
“John answered and said, ‘A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.” (John 3:27)
And on top of that, these things were all GOD’S IDEA! The Bible says “OF GOD you are in Christ Jesus.” (1 Cor 1:30) The Bible reveals that we were born again, not of the will of man, “but OF GOD.” (Jn 1:12) And God has given you His Word and His Spirit to reveal all of His great thoughts, ideas, and plans concerning you!
This should bring you great peace and confidence! You are not battling for your own or on your own. You are a recipient and beneficiary of “His.” That’s why we regularly pray that God would give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation…that we may know “the hope of HIS CALLING.” (Eph 1:17-18) You may think you care, but God cares more! That’s why you can cast your cares upon the Lord and stay the course with His Word in your mouth. God will fight for you!
But as with anything else that comes from God, what He gives is never just about us, nor does it end with us. This is what makes your inheritance and what God has prepared for you all the more PRECIOUS – it is for you and the many more who will be impacted as a result of His faithfulness to His promise in your life! To say that your inheritance is worth pursuing is an understatement!
This is also one big reason why the enemy is contending with you over the items I have listed above. God and His inheritance for you is bigger than you! And it’s connected with fruit that goes far beyond this life.
So, back to our confessions. Why are these types of confessions so important? Why would you need them? Here are a few good reasons:
- GOD SAID SO! He said “this book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth.” And He would know! He knows our design. He knows how He created us to best function. And He knows what works and what doesn’t. That should be enough right there.
- OUR BATTLE IS A SPIRITUAL BATTLE. We now “do victory” from our hearts and with our mouths. Keeping God’s Word in our mouths will keep us moving forward and ensure that we aren’t giving the enemy any place. We must never give the enemy our mouths – not under any circumstances. The fight of faith is a fight of words. Make your mouth do its duty! The battle is for God’s Word which has been sent to reveal your inheritance, so let the Word fight its own fight by speaking it. His Word cannot fail, for God is One with His Word. He is the Word! God’s Word has the power within itself to bring itself to pass! He watches over His word to perform it!
- OPPOSITION IS REAL. There is a real spiritual adversary who will oppose you walking in what God has prepared for you. We must learn how to wage a good warfare with God’s Word in our mouths! We are dealing with lying spirits of darkness which will wage warfare against our minds, telling us that we can’t have it, can’t do it, or that we are somehow disqualified. Keeping a steadfast confession of God’s Word in your mouth will ensure that you win the battle that comes against your mind. Don’t think…SPEAK!
My friend, only be strong and very courageous! God’s plan is real! VICTORY IS SURE! We must only ensure that we possess our inheritance the way God has prescribed – with His Word in our mouths!
God will be faithful to complete what HE has started. Don’t give up! Stay with it! I would encourage you to dig even deeper regarding each precious part of your inheritance in Christ. It is all YOURS, and it is all GOD’S IDEA. He will bring it to pass!
Don’t wait. Start now. Put these confessions in your mouth. Say something!
