Freedom From Fear

ā€œThe oath which He swore to our father Abraham: To grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fearā€¦ all the days of our life.ā€

ā€”Luke 1:73-75

Look at that! God’s will is that we might serve Him ā€œwithout fearā€ for the entirety of our lives.

Galatians 3:13 says, ā€œChrist has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us.ā€ According to Deuteronomy 28, Fear is mentioned as one of those curses. Fear is a curse and is an enemy of God! Fear brings bondage. Job said, ā€œFor the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, and what I dreaded has happened to me.ā€ (Job 3:25).

As Christians, we have freedom from any and all fear.

The bible says in Colossians 1:13 that we have been delivered from the power and authority of Satan and transferred into the Kingdom of the Son of love. Hebrews 2:14 says that, through the death of Jesus, He destroyed (or paralyzed) him who had the power of death, that is the devil, and released us who through fear of death were all our lifetime subject to bondage.

Psalm 34:4 says, ā€œI sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.ā€

2 Timothy 1:7 says, ā€œFor God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.ā€

Romans 8:15 says, ā€œFor you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, Abba, Father.ā€

Ā

Take a moment and read these verses out loud again.
Personalize them. Allow them to soak into your consciousness.
Fear does not belong to a child of God!

Ā

Even in the midst of the most disturbing of circumstances, as Christians, we have A RIGHT TO CHOOSE whether or not we will be afraid. Jesus said in John 14:27, ā€œā€¦let not your heart be troubled, neither let (or allow) your heart to be afraid.ā€

In Mark 5, the bible tells the story of Jairus, who came to Jesus to entreat Him to come heal his daughter who was at the point of death. Not long after Jesus began to follow Jairus, some people from his house came to Jairus and gave him an evil report, telling him that his daughter was dead and not to trouble Jesus any further. After hearing their words, Jesus turned immediately to Jairus and said to him, ā€œDo not fear; only believe.ā€ Jairus then exercised his authority not to be afraid, and His faith in Jesus brought forth the manifestation of what he desiredā€”his daughter was made well!

Psalm 23 says, ā€œThe Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not wantā€¦Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I WILL FEAR NO EVIL; For You are with me.ā€

Ā

Stop for a moment and say this out loud:
ā€œI will not fear!Ā I choose to only believe
what God’s Word says to me.ā€

Ā

Apart from fear, Satan has no connection with your life. The door to him will be shut! Isaiah 54:14 says, ā€œyou shall be far from oppressionā€ and that terror (and terrorism) shall not come near you, ā€œfor you shall not fear.ā€

Fear is never to be tolerated, coped with, or managed, but it should be violently attacked, resisted, and cast out!

Over 300 times in the bible, God commands his people not to be afraid!

In Judges 7, while Gideon was selecting an army to defeat the Midianites, the Lord instructed him to first get rid of the fearful.

In Joshua 1:9, the Lord commanded Joshua,Ā  ā€œBe strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.ā€

Deuteronomy chapter 20 outlines the Old Testament principles governing warfare, wherein God says, ā€œWhat man is there who is fearful and fainthearted?Ā  Let him go and return to his house, lest the heart of his brethren faint like his heart.ā€Ā  Fearā€”just like faithā€”is a contagious force, when allowed to operate.

Ā

Once you make a decision that you will not fear,
you must stand against it.

Ā

The remedy for fear is knowledge of God’s love for you. This can be found in a revelation of Christ’s redemptive work and in the promises of God.

Romans 5:8 says, ā€œBut God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.ā€

Ā 1 John 3:1 says, ā€œBehold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!ā€

God is love. 1 John 4:18 says, ā€œThere is no fear in love; but perfect loves casts out all fearā€¦.ā€ God’s Word contains at least one promise for every possible fear. 1 John 2:5 says, ā€œwhoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him.ā€ A heart and mouth filled with God’s Word will ā€œcast outā€ all fear that tries to enter your life and leave the enemy paralyzed before you.

Meditation on God’s love for you will cause you to be confident and secure when everyone around you is panic-stricken. 1 John 4:16 says, ā€œAnd we have known andĀ believed the love that God has for us.Ā  God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.ā€

Ā

Stop for a moment and say this out loud:
ā€œI know God’s love for me! It is revealed to me through Jesus’ death on the cross for me.Ā And I BELIEVE THAT LOVE!Ā God loves me with an unfailing and unconditional love!Ā I refuse to be afraid of anything!ā€

Ā

It is important that we never act on fear.Ā  Never speak fear! To speak fear is to speak the language of a man separated from God.Ā  In Genesis 3:10, after sinning in the garden, Adam said, ā€œI was afraid.ā€ We are no longer to identify with Adam and his fall in the garden. But through faith in Christ, we have already been reconciled with the Father God.

At the onset of any fearful thought, open your mouth and say, ā€œI will not fear!Ā  Fear has no place in me!Ā  God loves me!Ā  He won’t let me fail!Ā  I am free from all fear.ā€Ā  The bible says that when you resist the devil, he will flee from you (James 4:7).

Enjoy a fear-free life.Ā  It belongs to you in Christ Jesus!
