The Sweet Spot

Living Your Life in the Center of God's Perfect Will

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

ā€”Romans 12:1,2

What is the “Sweet Spot?”

Whether it is a golf club, a tennis racquet, or a baseball bat, there is a part in the center of that club, racquet, or bat that will give you the most power for the least effort. This is known as ā€œthe sweet spot.ā€ Knowing this, the goal is to hit the ball in the ā€œsweet spotā€ as frequently as possible. Doing so will enable you to get greater, more powerful, and more accurate results without expending any additional effort. In fact, when you learn to hit theā€œsweet spot,ā€ you can do more, even though it may feel you are actually doing less.

Ā

Sweet Spot: the part of the surface that gives the most power for the least effort.

Sweet Spot: the particular situation, quality, or combination of things that is the best or the most effective possible.

Ā

And so it is regarding Godā€™s will for your life. The Lord wants to help you find the center of His perfect will for your life ā€” ā€œthe sweet spot!ā€ You can maximize your efforts by being in the center of Godā€™s will.

Success with God and in the Kingdom of God is not always a function of doing more or working harder.

God has a ā€œsweet spotā€ for you! That spot is in the very center of His perfect will for your life.

Ā

You Don’t Have to Force It!

Ā

ā€œAre you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and youā€™ll recover your life. Iā€™ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with meā€”watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I wonā€™t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and youā€™ll learn to live freely and lightly.ā€

ā€” Matthew 11:28ā€“30, MSG

Ā

God has a plan and a place for you that is ā€œunforcedā€ yet itā€™s very powerful! As you mature spiritually, you will have to learn the difference between forcing your own and yielding to His.

The forcing of your own is also referred to in the Scriptures as ā€œselfish ambitionā€ orā€œstrife.ā€ This occurs when we strive to make our own plans or our own will come to pass. Although it can be very easy and tempting to operate this way at times, The Bible teaches us that this way of doing things is not heavenly, but rather “earthly, sensual, and demonic.”

Ā

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you?
Let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

ā€” James 3:13ā€“17, KJV

Ā

When we continue to try and force our own, we will ultimately find ā€œconfusion and every evil work.ā€ In other words, Satan is there! And we know that wherever he is, there will also be stealing, killing, and destroying. This is just the opposite of living in the ā€œsweet spot.ā€

Will you need to be forceful at times? Most definitely! In fact, regularly! Jesus taught us that we must forcefully possess our Kingdom inheritance! (Matt. 11:12) But this is far different from trying to force and persist in what YOU want. The area you must apply force is in finding out what His will is and then holding fast to that!

Here are some different bible words that give us a picture of ways that we are to be forceful and aggressive. All of these are done by His grace and with the help of the Holy Spirit. In fact, if you are working together with the Holy Spirit, He will always be leading you and helping you to do these things, because this is your part.

Ā

  • Fight ā€“ ā€œFight the good fight of faithā€ (1 Tim. 6:12)
  • Press ā€“ ā€œpress on to lay holdā€ (Phil. 3:12)
  • Labor ā€“ ā€œlabor to enter into restā€ (Heb. 4:11)
  • Choose – “Choose life” (Deut. 30:19)
  • Submit ā€“ ā€œSubmit to Godā€ (Jas. 4:7)
  • Resist ā€“ ā€œresist the devilā€ (Jas. 4:7)
  • Watch and pray ā€“ ā€œWatch and pray lest you enter into temptationā€ (Matt. 26:41)
  • Consecrate ā€“ ā€œnot my will, Your will be doneā€ (Matt. 26:39)
  • Yield ā€“ ā€œthe wisdom from above is…willing to yieldā€ (Jas. 3:17)
  • Follow ā€“ ā€œIf anyone serves Me, let him follow Meā€ (Jn. 12:26)
  • Obey ā€“ ā€œobey and work out your own salvationā€ (Phil. 2:12)

Ā

As you forcefully apply yourself in these areas, you wonā€™t have to force results or force the outcome that you desire. Instead, it will flow! Our job is to align and position ourselves in agreement with the Lord and what He wants. His job is to bring it to pass! He brings forth the results! Thatā€™s life in the ā€œsweet spot.ā€

Ā

The Word and the Spirit Work Together

It is even possible to have your own scriptures and favorite verses and still try to force your own will. But, in case you havenā€™t discovered it yet, that doesnā€™t work well either! The Word of God doesnā€™t work apart from the will of God. (1 Jn. 5:14)

Everything that God has given you, including your favorite verses, will work much better for you in the center of Godā€™s perfect will for your life ā€” in the ā€œsweet spotā€!

Everything that God has given you, including your favorite verses, will also work much better for you as you follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Remember what Jesus said, ā€œDonā€™t go anywhere until you receive the Holy Spirit!ā€ (Acts 1:4,5) Why did He say that? Because you canā€™t get results in the Kingdom of God apart from Him!

The Bible teaches us this: ā€œThe just shall live by faith.ā€ Your life of faith is like a vehicle with four wheels, each of which is vital for you to make progress and be successful in the life of faith.

Ā

Ā  Ā  Ā oĀ  Ā Wheel 1 ā€“ Believe what God says.

Ā Ā Ā Ā  oĀ  Ā Wheel 2 ā€“ Say what God says.

Ā Ā Ā Ā  oĀ  Ā Wheel 3 ā€“ Act on what God says.

Ā Ā Ā Ā  oĀ  Ā Wheel 4 ā€“ Be Led by the Holy Spirit.

Ā

How to Describe the ā€œSweet Spotā€

“Being in the RIGHT PLACE …at the RIGHT TIME…

doing the RIGHT THINGS…with the RIGHT PEOPLE.ā€

Ā

This is a good thing to regularly speak and declare over your life. Each of these four is very important!

Being in your God-ordained place is very important, but it is also important to get the timing right. You donā€™t want to try and force something ahead of its time. The Holy Spirit will cause you to know when you are ready, and also when all things are ready for you!

Once you know where to go, and when to go there, it is also important that you know what to do once you get there! You want to be involved in the ā€œright things,ā€ not just any things. And of course, it matters who you work with ā€” ā€œthe right people.ā€ God arranges and sets people in the Body of Christ, so it matters that we work with those to whom He sends us and joins us. (1 Cor. 12:18; Col. 2:19)

If we are wise, we will consult with Him regarding each of these!

Ā

Evidence of the ā€œSweet Spotā€

How can you tell when you are in the ā€œsweet spotā€ of the center of Godā€™s will? Here are four things you will want to look for that should be manifest as you persevere in Godā€™s will for your life.

After weeks, and months, or even years of doing what you are doing, if you donā€™t consistently find these four things, you may want to ask the Lord if you are really doing what He has designed for you.

Ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢Ā Ā  POWER

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢Ā Ā  PROVISION

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢Ā Ā  PROTECTION

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢Ā Ā  PEACE

Ā

Ā

POWER

There is ability, grace, anointing, and supernatural strength in the center of Godā€™s will for your life. Even when you feel inadequate, as you go back to your calling and look to Him, you will find ability to get your job done. God is faithful to equip those He calls!

Ā

  • Acts 1:8 ā€“ ā€œYou shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you.ā€
  • 1 Cor. 15:10 ā€“ ā€œI am what I am by Godā€™s grace…I labor more abundantly by the grace of God.ā€
  • 1 Pet. 4:11 ā€“ ā€œminister (serve) with the ability which God suppliesā€

Ā

The power, grace, and ability you are looking for is connected with your purpose and Godā€™s design for your life! Grace is Godā€™s ability for you, and that grace can be found in the discovery of your purpose ā€” a purpose that was decided for you ā€œbefore time began.ā€

Ā

who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began

ā€” 2 Timothy 1:9

Ā

Certainly, there will be many times that you donā€™t ā€œfeelā€ like doing what God has called you to do. But as you make a decision to apply yourself and get to work anyway, you will always find power, grace, anointing, and strength to continue and make progress.

Ā

PROVISION

Godā€™s will is Godā€™s bill! Period! Itā€™s ridiculous to think that He would call you to do something that He didnā€™t make and prepare provision for. Surely He is a better planner than that! And indeed He is!

These verses will give you greater boldness in expecting His provision in the place He calls you, as you put your hand to what He has called you to do.

  • 1 Cor. 9:7 ā€“ ā€œWho goes to war at his own expense?ā€
  • Lk. 22:35 ā€“ ā€œWhen I sent you…did you lack anything?ā€ So they said, ā€œNothing.ā€
  • Lk. 14:28ā€“30 ā€“ā€œWhich of you intending to build a tower, doesnā€™t sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it?ā€
Ā

If the Lord asks us to ā€œcount the costā€ before we set out to do something, donā€™t you think He already counted the cost of everything that will be required for you to successfully complete HIS purpose for your life? Yes, He has! In grand and glorious style!

Ā

Godā€™s plan is Godā€™s care, as long as you leave it in his hands. (Deut. 11:11,12)

Ā

Donā€™t allow yourself to become anxious or worried about finances and provision. Once you cease striving to do your own plan, and instead yield to what He has prepared, you can be rest assured that there will be provision waiting for you.

You wonā€™t need to spend so much time always praying for money and provision. Nor will you need to ask others to help you. He will use different people in different ways, but you only need to look to Him ā€” the One who called you.

Ā

Rather than using your spiritual energies always trying to get God to bless what you do, why not use your spiritual energies to stay in the ā€œsweet spotā€ of Godā€™s perfect will for your life?

Ā

Godā€™s will for your life is already blessed and already provided for! Use your spiritual energy to seek and discover what He wants done, how He wants it done, and then to continue with those things! Thatā€™s where you will find the provision you are looking for! Of course, along the way you will need to tithe, honor God, give as He leads you, speak the Word, and handle your resources with wisdom, but you can be sure that there is supply available and waiting for you.

The question is not really, ā€œWhereā€™s the money and provision?ā€ The greater question is, ā€œWhat and where is the will of God for my life?ā€ If you learn to ask and then find the answer to the right questions, you will also find the provision that you have been looking for!

Ā

Hereā€™s a blueprint that may help you:

  • Find out what God wants you to do and where He wants you to go. (Col. 1:9)
  • Ā Settle it! (Jas. 1:6-8)
  • Release faith and ask God for all things pertaining to that direction or endeavor. Reach out by faith, and believe you receive! Claim money, favor, tickets, utterance, protection, facilities, and anything else you can think of that applies to what you are doing. Believe you receive! (Phil. 4:19; Mk. 11:24)
  • Cast the care of all the provisions on Him, entering into rest and thanksgiving. (1 Pet. 5:6,7)
  • Go get your job done! (Lk. 9:62)

Ā

PROTECTION

Ā As you do the will of God, you may be tested, challenged, and opposed, but you will always come out victorious, if you learn to do things His way. He always causes us to triumph! (2 Cor. 2:14)

In the ā€œsweet spotā€ of the center of Godā€™s will for your life, He will keep you, sustain you, vindicate you, and even fight for you!

You are no longer standing alone, asking Him to protect you. Instead, you have chosen to stand with Him, in going and doing what He has revealed to you. And because you are where He is, then He always has you covered!

As long as you wonā€™t quit, you are simply unstoppable in the will of God!

  • ā€œNo man shall stand before you all the days of your life…ā€ (Josh. 1:5)
  • ā€œNo weapon formed against you shall prosper…ā€ (Is. 54:17)
  • ā€œNothing shall by any means harm you.ā€ (Lk. 10:19)
  • ā€œWhen a manā€™s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.ā€ (Prov. 16:7)
  • ā€œThe wicked will gnash his teeth and melt away. The desire of the wicked shall perish.” (Ps. 112:10)
  • ā€œYour enemies will be defeated before your face. They come out one way and flee seven ways.ā€ (Deut. 28:7)
  • ā€œI will bless those who bless you, and I will curse those who curse you.ā€ (Gen. 12:3)
  • Ā ā€œFear not…I am your shield and your exceedingly great reward.ā€ (Gen. 15:1)
  • ā€œIf this plan is of God, you cannot overthrow it ā€” lest you even be found to fight against God.ā€ (Acts 5:39)
Ā
Ā

PEACE

Ā

ā€œPeace I leave with you, My peace I give to you;
not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.ā€

ā€” John 14:27

Ā

Once you are born again and become a child of God, there is no peace to be found quite like the peace of being settled in the ā€œsweet spotā€ of Godā€™s perfect will for your life.

Ā

I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

ā€” Psalm 4:8

Ā

When we are saved, Jesus gives us His peace. After that, itā€™s our job to learn to listen to and monitor His peace on the inside of us. We should follow after His peace. That peace is to be like an ā€œumpireā€ and ruling force in our lives, helping us to decide what is God and what is not. (Col. 3:14,15) He leads us forth with peace and joy! (Is. 55:12)

When you are in the center of Godā€™s will for your life, His peace and presence will give you rest, confidence, and satisfaction, even in the midst of adverse circumstances. (Ps. 27:3)

You should always look for His peace as an indicator of being in His perfect will. If you donā€™t have peace, take time to inquire of the Lord and find out why. Your success and well-being depend upon it!

Ā

The Ultimate Price!

Sometimes people say, ā€œYou gotta pay the price if you are going to do Godā€™s will.ā€ And true enough, you will need to apply yourself relentlessly to accomplish Godā€™s will. But in reality, the greatest and ultimate price is never paid in obeying and following the Lord. The greatest and ultimate price is paid when we are outside of Godā€™s will for our lives. Not only will we pay and suffer unnecessarily, but so also will our family members and those closely associated with us.

Ā

Our choices, whether for or against the revealed will of God, always have an impact beyond our own lives.

Ā

Seek Your ā€œSweet Spotā€ and Stay There

The goal of this teaching is to stir you up about the ā€œsweet spotā€ that God has for you ā€” right in the very center of His perfect will! If you have not found it yet, then donā€™t stop until you do! And once you find it, do whatever it takes to stay ā€œin stepā€ with Godā€™s Spirit so that you can remain there with Him. As you do, it will produce fruit, dividends, and success that you simply cannot enjoy any other way.

You donā€™t have to settle for a mediocre Christian existence. God has prepared something better for you than that! There is a ā€œsweet spotā€ for you ā€” a place of His power, His provision, His protection, and His peace. It is a very real and undeniable place. Itā€™s not a place without challenges, but it is a place where you always triumph and overcome.
